Abstract

The development of a tourist area cannot be separated from the community around the area. The community must be participatory to be able to develop the area into a destination that is able to attract economic value. This research is a community perception and participatory study of the marine tourism development plan on Um Island. Data obtained and processed in the form of tables and graphs. The results showed the first indicator, the public's perception of developing tourism objects and tourist attractions, was 5.88, which in general the respondents agreed to develop tourism and tourist attractions. The second indicator is public perception to develop marine tourism facilities with a value of 6.10 which means that the community agrees with the development of marine tourism facilities. The third indicator related to public perception related to the development of marine tourism accessibility is obtained a value of 6.12 which means that respondents agree with the development of marine tourism accessibility. Community participation by gender which is dominated by women. Participation based on age is dominated by the age range of 41-50. Participation based on education is dominated by undergraduate graduates. Furthermore, in the category of work which is dominated by the merchant group.
